The insurance industry keeps its service running
for policyholders facing the exceptional situation created in Spain by coronavirus (COVID-19). The sector reports that the main insurance lines affected by this illness are currently operating entirely as normal.
The World Health Organisation declared COVID-19 a pandemic yesterday. Spain's insurance sector wishes to send a message of reassurance and, following this announcement, to reiterate its firm and unequivocal cooperation with the measures set by the health authorities to control the spread of coronavirus in Spain.
Healthcare cover is guaranteed for all customers. Health insurers are providing access to medical care for those showing symptoms of possible infection at the centres within their networks. Meanwhile, private healthcare centres are treating patients and following, at all times, the protocols set by the health authorities for handling possible cases, as their representative associations have repeatedly confirmed. The privately owned healthcare network is working closely with the public health service and with the health services of Spain's different autonomous regions to help halt the spread of this illness.
Life insurers, too, are settling claims promptly for policyholders who have died of coronavirus and paying out the sums insured to the designated beneficiaries.
Travel assistance insurers, meanwhile, are covering the medical care received by insured travellers who have become infected with coronavirus while abroad, within the limits set by the contract. Assistance policies also cover travel, accommodation and subsistence costs for at least one companion of the patient. Travel insurance policies that include cancel-for-any-reason cover also allow policyholders to cancel a trip for any reason.
The insurance industry also wishes to reassure the public that services for all other types of insurance (motor, home, funeral cover, etc.) continue to operate entirely as normal. Insurers have put contingency plans in place to guarantee customer service across every line of business. Insurers and insurance distributors remain available to serve their customers.
Your motor insurance also protects you during the #EstadoDeAlarmaNacional (national state of alarm). Both third-party and comprehensive cover. #StopBulos Help us spread the word. Thank you. #EducaciónFinanciera pic.twitter.com/utw3Vo1uB6
