Reporting a Consorcio-eligible claim from storm Therese
If the storm damaged your home, your homeowners' association or your business, the compensation may fall to the Consorcio de Compensación de Seguros (Spanish Insurance Compensation Consortium) rather than your insurer. We'll handle it for you.
What counts as a Consorcio-eligible claim
The Consorcio de Compensación de Seguros (CCS) covers damage caused by so-called extraordinary risks — including extraordinary flooding and winds above a set speed — provided there is a policy in force that includes the compulsory surcharge in favour of the Consorcio.
That means the claim is not paid by your insurer, but by the Consorcio, even though it is your policy that gives rise to the right to compensation. The insurer and the brokerage step in to certify the cover and support the file.
We check whether your case is Consorcio-eligible, submit the report and follow it up until payment. If the damage doesn't fall under extraordinary risks, we redirect it as an ordinary claim under your policy so it doesn't go unprocessed.
If you're not sure whether your case qualifies, call us anyway: checking the cover costs nothing, but missing the deadline does.
What can be reported
- Home: building and contents damaged by water ingress
- Homeowners' associations: communal areas, garages and storage rooms
- Shops and businesses: premises, machinery, stock and loss of profits if contracted
- Vehicles with a policy in force, depending on the cover taken out
How it's processed
The sooner the damage is documented, the simpler the assessment and the faster the compensation arrives.
- 1. Secure and documentBefore removing anything, photograph and film the damage and the level the water reached. Keep the damaged items until the loss adjuster has seen them.
- 2. Let us know as soon as possibleWith your policy number and a description of what happened. We check whether the claim is Consorcio-eligible.
- 3. We submit the reportTo the Consorcio, with the policy details, the exact location and an initial estimate of the damage.
- 4. Loss assessmentThe appointed loss adjuster visits the property and assesses the damage. Having invoices and photographs to hand speeds this stage up considerably.
- 5. CompensationThe Consorcio settles and pays out. We follow the file and lodge a claim if the settlement isn't right.
