SECOND INFORMATION NOTICE ON CCS ACTIVITY FOLLOWING THE VOLCANIC ERUPTION ON THE ISLAND OF LA PALMA
- As of 22 September 2021, the CCS has received the first 40 compensation claims, of which 14 were submitted through the CCS's freephone customer service centre (900 222 665) and 26 online through the CCS website ( consorseguros.es)
- Affected insured parties are reminded that they may request compensation themselves, although it is also common for their agents or insurance brokers, or their own insurers, to do so on behalf of the insured party who has suffered the damage.
This common practice, whereby the insured party asks their insurer or insurance intermediary to handle the compensation claim to the CCS on their behalf, can be especially advisable in cases where, as will often happen in this volcanic eruption episode, the insured party is unable to access the necessary policy details and other documentation to request compensation, owing to the impossibility or difficulty of reaching the affected home or commercial or industrial premises. That information will be held on file by the insurance company or the insurance intermediary through whom the policy was taken out.
- It is very important that, in cases where compensation is requested by the insurer or the intermediary on behalf of the insured party, a contact phone number for the insured party is always provided to the CCS at that time.
to the damaged property and to explain the next steps and the documentation to prepare in order to enable the fastest possible assessment.
- The compensation claims, coming from Los Llanos de Aridane and El Paso, cover 33 homes, 5 vehicles, 1 shop and 1
- Given that the eruption is still active and evolving daily, and that loss adjusters have so far been unable to access the affected areas, the CCS cannot yet provide estimates of the expected number of claims or the cost of the compensable damage. Once this information is available, the CCS will publish its estimates
